St. Croix Spring or is it Autumn?

Around the world Autumn is normally associated with brilliant changes in foliage.
In the islands Autumn is our Spring. It starts the end of February by exhibiting all the signs of Autumn.
The trees turn glorious reds, oranges, and yellows and the hills light up.

Leaves fall all over the roads buffeted by the wind.
They clog our roof drains,
cover our yards, make it easy to see around corners.
 Leaves blanket the wooded areas
and the TanTans get loaded down with their dreaded seed pods.
The Schak Schak trees make melodious music when the wind blows
Our grass dies
And the hills turn brown
Ponds dry up.
and the birds move in closer looking for food
and water.
Spring is here.
Our biggest harvests have finished and the markets sell fewer and fewer vegetables.
Association with cold weather doesn’t happen
because we know its not the chill of winter to expect but the heat of summer.
Autumn is normally mixed up with melancholy feelings
and unhealthy times but in the islands during our Spring/Autumn families gather for camping and rejoice at being together.
Spring is here...or is it Autumn?
See ya next week.
